5 Things
we wish every gel nail client knew about their nails
1. Picking gel off damages your nails
Please don't pick off your gel.
It can be tempting to peel or pick off your gel when it starts lifting, but doing so can cause significant damage to your natural nails.

When gel is peeled off, it often takes layers of your natural nail with it. This leaves your nails thinner, weaker, and more flexible than they should be.

Over time, this can lead to:

-
Thin, weakened nails
-
Increased breakage and splitting
-
Poorer gel adhesion
-
More lifting with future applications
-
Longer recovery time for your natural nails
If your gel has started lifting or you're ready for a new set, please book a professional soak-off or infill. We use safe removal techniques that protect the integrity of your natural nails, keeping them healthy, strong, and ready for your next beautiful manicure.

Healthy nails are the foundation of long-lasting, beautiful enhancements.
2. Lifting isn't always the products' fault
Help your nails last longer
Beautiful nails are a partnership between your nail technician and you! A few simple habits can make a big difference in how well your gel manicure lasts.

Before Your Appointment
Please avoid applying hand cream or cuticle oil on the day of your appointment. Oils and lotions can interfere with proper product adhesion, increasing the risk of lifting.
During Your Appointment
Keep your hands in the lamp for the full curing time. Removing your hand early to answer a call, send a text, or check a notification can result in under-cured gel, which may lead to lifting, chipping, or service failure.
After Your Appointment
-
Treat your nails with care. Your nails are jewels, not tools! Avoid using them to open cans, scrape stickers, peel labels, or pry objects apart.
-
Never pick or peel off your gel. Peeling the product away also removes layers of your natural nail, leaving it thinner, weaker, and more prone to damage. Always have your gel professionally removed or safely soaked off where appropriate.
-
Moisturize regularly. Applying cuticle oil daily and hand cream throughout the day helps keep your natural nails and surrounding skin healthy, which supports better long-term wear.
Following these simple guidelines will help your manicure stay beautiful for longer while keeping your natural nails healthy and strong.
3. Maintenance really is key
Why regular maintenance matters.
We know it can be tempting to stretch your manicure for as long as possible, but gel isn't designed to last forever.
When we recommend returning after 2–3 weeks for soft gel or up to 4 weeks for hard gel, it's not because we want to book more appointments—it's because we want to protect the health of your natural nails.
As your natural nails grow:
-
The apex (the strongest part of the enhancement) moves forward, reducing the support your nail needs. This places extra stress on the free edge and can increase the risk of painful breaks or cracks.
-
The bond between the product and your natural nail gradually weakens. Even if your nails still look perfect, tiny areas of lifting can develop that aren't always visible.
-
Moisture can become trapped beneath lifted product, creating an environment where bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa may grow. This can cause a green discolouration known as green nail syndrome (chloronychia).
Long wear isn't always a sign of a healthy manicure. In fact, wearing the same set for 6–7 weeks can increase the risk of damage to both the enhancement and your natural nails.

By maintaining your nails on the recommended schedule, we can:
-
Keep your nails balanced and properly supported.
-
Reduce the risk of lifting and breakage.
-
Protect the health of your natural nails.
-
Ensure your manicure continues to look its best.
Regular maintenance isn't about selling more appointments—it's about keeping your nails healthy, strong, and beautiful for the long term.
4. Cuticle oil is worth the hype
Cuticle oil: The secret to healthy nails.
If there is one product we recommend to every client, it's cuticle oil.

Using cuticle oil every day helps keep your nails and surrounding skin hydrated, healthy, and flexible. Well-moisturised nails are less likely to become brittle, lift, or break, helping your gel manicure last longer and look beautiful between appointments.
Daily cuticle oil also helps to:
-
Reduce dry, cracked cuticles and hangnails.
-
Keep your natural nails flexible and less prone to splitting.
-
Maintain the shine and appearance of your manicure.
-
Support healthy nail growth.
HOW TO APPLY
Massage a small amount of cuticle oil:
-
Around the entire cuticle area.
-
Along the sides of the nail.
-
Under the free edge of your nail to nourish the nail from underneath.
Take a few moments to gently massage the oil into your skin—this also helps stimulate healthy blood flow to the nail area.
Which Cuticle Oil is Best?
Jojoba oil is considered the gold standard because its molecular structure is very similar to our skin's natural oils. This allows it to penetrate deeply instead of simply sitting on the surface, providing lasting hydration where it's needed most.

Make It a Daily Habit
For the best results:
-
Apply cuticle oil at least once a day.
-
Make it part of your bedtime routine by keeping a bottle on your bedside table.
-
Keep another bottle in your handbag, at your desk, or next to your favourite chair so it's always within reach.
Healthy nails don't happen by chance—they happen through consistent care. Just a few drops of cuticle oil each day can make a remarkable difference to the health of your nails and the longevity of your manicure.
5. Communication is key
Your appointment. Your experience.
Every client is different—and that's exactly how we like it.

Whether you'd love a quiet, relaxing appointment, or you need to chat, laugh, vent, or simply offload after a long day, we're here for it. There is no "right" way to spend your appointment.

If something isn't quite what you imagined, please tell us. We genuinely won't be offended. We'd much rather make an adjustment during your appointment than have you leave feeling anything less than delighted.

Sometimes, though, we can't know what you need unless you tell us.

So please don't be afraid to speak up. Whether it's:
-
You'd prefer a silent appointment.
-
You'd like a different nail shape or length.
-
A colour isn't quite what you expected.
-
You're feeling uncomfortable.
-
You have a question or concern.
We want to know.

This is your appointment, your time, and your nails. Our goal is to create an experience where you feel comfortable, heard, and cared for from start to finish.
The best appointments happen when we work together—and open communication is the key to beautiful results and happy clients.
